Purpose
  • This training is suitable for individuals, companies and organisations, and will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to make them confident and competent to perform the specific requirements of Occupational First Aid.
Target Audience
  • This course is for those employed, or intends to become employed, as an industrial Occupational First Aider.
Format
  • A mixture of theoretical and practical elements, with at least 50% of time spent on practical skills.
Prerequisites
  • This course is for currently qualified first aid certificate holders (Level 2).
  • Be at least 16 years of age by the last scheduled session of the course.
Qualification issued
  • Statement of Attainment - Apply Advanced First Aid
  • HLTFA402B
Legislative Authorisations
  • Conforms to the requirements of Victoria Occupational Heath & Safety Authority First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice, 1995

  • Approved under the South Australian Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations, 1995 - Department of Administration and Information Services – Workplace Services

  • Approved by Workcover Authority NSW (Occupational First Aid)

  • Apply First Aid Management for bone and joint injuries

  • Apply First Aid Management skills for bites, stings and poisoning.

  • Manage an acute illness

  • Describe the recognition and management of an eye injury

  • Manage Hyperthermia & Hypothermia.

  • Describe the basic structure and function of the human body.

  • Apply First Aid Management skills for chest, abdominal, pelvic and head injuries

  • State/Territory legislation Responsibilities

  • Advanced resuscitation techniques

  • Triage

  • Asthma Management Accreditation

  • Anaphylaxis/Epipen Training

  • Use care and maintenance of First aid room and equipment including Oxygen

  • Automated External Defibrillation
Course Length
  • Approximately 16 hours and Online component

Instructor
  • Currently authorised First Aid/CPR trainer
Requirements for Successful Course Completion
  • Attendance at all sections of the course is required.

  • Active participation in group activities and discussions involved in the training program.

  • Successfully complete progressive practical assessments. Progressive assessment of the competencies will be conducted throughout the course.

  • Successfully complete a multiple-choice theoretical assessment at the end of the course.

Certificate Validity
  • Legislative approval valid for years (3) years from the completion date.

  • It is recommended that cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills be refreshed annually.

  • Manual - Active First Aid

  • Resuscitation Mask - Key ring version

  • A4 Certificate

Recommended Class Size
  • Minimum: 10

  • Maximum: 20

Notes
  • Due to the practical components of the course, participants are advised to wear comfortable casual attire.

  • It is recommended the CPR component of the course be updated yearly either in a Senior First Aid Refresher Course or in a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Refresher Course.
