Hi Barb,

Thanks again for the First Aid course on Saturday. Even though it was a reaccreditation, I still learnt new things and reinforced the old.

In fact I actually had to put my skills to use that night. I was at a BBQ around a pool and a friend dropped her mobile in the pool. Her dog jumped in to get it so she thought she would run inside to get a towel to dry off the phone. She thought the glass sliding door was open and ran straight into it. It was an old door which shatters and shards.

She had a huge cut to the forehead, which someone was compressing with a towel. I reassured them "don't worry, blood is a good sign" So i started listing off all the things we need. Yelling orders for someone to find a compress pad (which they didn't have), bandages, someone lock the dog away, someone else call the hospital to see how the wait in emergency is going, someone else to clear away the glass.

After about 10 minutes of addressing the head, we thought we should check her whole body just in case. As we rolled up her pants we saw a huge 10cm long gash to her leg, which was really deep. Right, there was more orders- more pads, more bandages please. I checked her upper body and found a stabbing wound to her stomach.

We bandaged everything up and went straight to emergency. I was so glad i didn't freak out and forget what to do. In fact i went into mission mode. The team of helpers all pulled together wonderfully, especially after an evening of drinking by the pool! If that’s not enough to sober you up nothing is!!

Then of course the joke of the night was "thank god Kasey did her first aid today"

Needless to say we are chipping in to get this friend and her husband a first aid kit for the home for Christmas.
So, thanks again Barb
